Ok Ok. . . Let me break this down for you. Auto-Tune is a proprietary audio processor created by Antares Audio Technologies that uses a phase vocoder to correct pitch in vocal and instrumental performances. It is used to disguise inaccuracies and mistakes, and has allowed many artists to produce more precisely tuned recordings. The term "autotune" is also used to refer to pitch correction technologies developed by other companies.
In the past year or so it has been used in MANY musical recordings due to the "cool" robotic effect that it gives off once the "retune speed" is set to zero. I totally agree that it has been HIGHLY overused but hey, thats music dude. . . Plus my favorite CD of all time was recorded using 90% or more of Auto-Tune. (808's & Heartbreak)
You can either like it or hate it but I can assure you, as long as there are Singers (or rappers that TRY to sing) there will ALWAYS be some Auto-Tune laying around. lol
